What Makes Us Poets

The ability to appeal to
the consciousness of
one humanity
When style is sacrificed
by truth reflected
as light into the life
of the youth
as proof that truth
sets free
the imprisoned psyche

When signs of the times
strike chords and nerves
and evil ones never get
what they deserve
but swerve and tilt against
the curve of guilt, and when
the milk of life is spilt onto
the canvas of created
contradictions, from the cup of
political fiction, listen to
the voice of the gifted spirits

Jason Scurry writes: "I am a 29-year-old poet who has been writing since 1998. I seek to reach out to the mind, soul and heart of humanity through poetry because I believe poetry is one of the answers to what plagues us as people."
